Jammu, Aug 12: A major fraud was busted after a complaint was lodged at Police Station Miran Sahib, leading to the registration of an FIR.
investigating team of Jammu Police led by SHO Miran Sahib, Inspector Azad Manhas under the supervision of SDPO R S Pura and SP headquarters Jammu apprehended a man impersonating a Regional Transport Officer (RTO) from Miran Sahib area.
The accused was caught red-handed while accepting money from residents of Miran Sahib, RS Pura, and other areas of Jammu in exchange for fake driving licences and forged vehicle documents. His fraudulent activities had been causing distress and financial loss to unsuspecting citizens.
He has been identified as Ashiq Lone, son of Maqbool Lone, resident of Khwaja Bagh, Baramulla, Srinagar. Investigations reveal that he had been posing as an RTO, deceiving the public by offering counterfeit services related to the Transport Department.
Based on victim statements recorded so far, the accused is alleged to have committed fraud amounting to ₹2,57,000. The forged documents and other evidence recovered from his possession are being examined to trace the full scope of his illegal operations.
A formal case has been registered against the accused, and Police Station Miran Sahib is carrying out further investigations to determine the complete extent of the fraud and identify any possible accomplices involved in the racket.
Jammu Police reiterates its unwavering commitment to protecting citizens from fraud and criminal activities, assuring the public that strict and swift action will be taken against those attempting to deceive or exploit the community.
