Jammu, Oct 9: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to announce its candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections from Jammu and Kashmir on Friday or Saturday, during the party’s Parliamentary Board meeting in New Delhi.
According to highly placed sources, the senior leadership of the BJP will hold a crucial meeting on Thursday evening to finalize the names of candidates. The meeting is expected to be attended by top party leaders, including members of the Parliamentary Board, who will give the final approval before the official announcement.
“The names of the candidates are likely to be finalized during Thursday’s meeting, but the official announcement will depend on the schedule and proceedings of the Parliamentary Board meeting,” a senior BJP insider said.
The BJP has already announced its decision to contest all four Rajya Sabha seats from Jammu and Kashmir. The Jammu and Kashmir BJP core committee has already held internal discussions and submitted a panel of names to the high command. The list reportedly includes a mix of seasoned politicians, organizational loyalists, and individuals with national-level recognition.
Party leaders said that the final decision will reflect the leadership’s broader political strategy for Jammu and Kashmir, and the party’s ongoing efforts to consolidate its presence across the region.
“The high command is assessing multiple factors — regional representation, community balance, performance, and political messaging — before making the final announcement,” sources added.
The Rajya Sabha elections have generated intense political activity across party lines in Jammu and Kashmir, with each major political formation exploring its options and potential alliances. For the BJP, the outcome of the elections is expected to be a crucial indicator of its organizational strength and future strategy in the Union Territory.
The official list of BJP candidates is expected to be released soon after the Parliamentary Board meeting, possibly late Friday evening or Saturday morning.
