Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 22: In a vibrant celebration of tradition, innovation, and artistic excellence, the INTACH Jammu Chapter, in collaboration with Blue River Ceramic Studio, successfully concluded the second phase of its Skill Upgradation Workshop for traditional potters.
Building upon the foundation laid in the earlier phase, this workshop welcomed back the talented women artisans from Lador village, offering them a deeper, more immersive experience in the art of ceramics. The focus this time was on advanced glazing techniques and creative colouring, empowering the participants to transform their handcrafted pieces into stunning works of art. Their enthusiasm, dedication, and evolving skills were truly inspiring.
The highlight of the workshop was an extraordinary live demonstration by acclaimed pottery expert Shubham Shankya from the renowned pottery hub of Andretta. Bringing with him the magic of the ancient Japanese Raku firing technique, he created an unforgettable experience for all present. In a rare and captivating display, a kiln was constructed on-site, and ceramic pieces were fired live, unveiling breathtaking textures, crackles, and metallic hues—each piece emerging as a unique masterpiece shaped by fire and chance.
The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Mrs and Mr.SSP Vaid and Forest commissioner Smt.Sheetal Nanda, along with several prominent citizens and art enthusiasts from Jammu. Their presence added warmth and encouragement to the occasion, as they witnessed first hand the transformative power of this beautiful craft.
The atmosphere was filled with excitement, curiosity, and admiration as a large audience gathered to experience this rare artistic process. The workshop not only showcased technical excellence but also highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting traditional crafts through meaningful engagement and skill development.
As the workshop drew to a close, it left behind not just beautifully crafted ceramics, but also a renewed sense of confidence and inspiration among the participants.
The organizers extended their heartfelt gratitude to Shri Shristi Sahni convener INTAC Jammu Raj kumari Jyotsana Singh Ji, and all members of the INTACH Jammu Chapter for their unwavering support and dedication in making this initiative a grand success.
A perfect blend of heritage and innovation, the workshop stood as a glowing testament to the timeless beauty of pottery—where earth meets fire, and creativity knows no bounds.
