Jammu, April 26: With Union Home Minister Amit Shah scheduled to visit Leh on April 30 for a two-day tour, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has announced a fresh round of talks with agitating groups of Ladakh on May 22, signalling a renewed push to revive the stalled dialogue process. The next meeting of the sub-committee for political dialogue will be held under the aegis of the High-Powered Committee constituted by the MHA. The announcement was made by Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena, who described the move as a step towards constructive engagement. “I am pleased to announce that the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has decided to convene a meeting of the sub-committee for political dialogue on May 22. This will carry forward the process of constructive democratic engagement with key stakeholders of Ladakh and pave the way for an enduring solution to meet the aspirations of the people,” Saxena said in a post on social media. The previous round of talks between Ladakh-based groups and the High-Powered Committee was held on February 4. Since then, several developments have taken place, including the revocation of the detention of noted climate activist Sonam Wangchuk under the National Security Act (NSA) on March 14. Wangchuk had been lodged in a Jodhpur jail since September 26, 2025, following unrest in Leh. His release came within hours of Saxena assuming charge as the fourth Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, a move widely seen as a confidence-building measure. |
