Leh, Apr 28: Headquarters of Ladakh, strategically located with borders touching China and Himachal Pradesh. Leh city remains the district headquarters. Kargil: The second major district, sharing borders with Pakistan (PoK), Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Kargil town is the headquarters. Nubra: Carved out of Leh district, it includes areas such as Diskit, Hunder, Sumur, Panamik and Turtuk beyond Khardung La. Diskit will serve as the district headquarters. Zanskar: Separated from Kargil district, the Buddhist-majority Zanskar valley shares borders with Himachal Pradesh. Padum will be the headquarters. Drass: Formed from Kargil sub-division along the Leh-Srinagar highway, extending up to Zojila Pass. Drass town will be its headquarters. Changthang: Currently part of Leh district, it includes key areas like Pangong Lake, Tso Moriri, Nyoma, Hanle and Chushul. Nyoma is likely to be the headquarters. Sham: Carved out of Leh district, comprising areas such as Nimmu, Alchi, Basgo, Khaltsi and Lamayuru. Khaltsi is expected to be the headquarters. |
