PM Modi’s digital census revolution reaches J&K: Rekha Mahajan
5/31/2026 10:14:31 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, May 31: BJP Vice President J&K and Prabhari Samba District, Rekha Mahajan, has welcomed the ongoing Self-Enumeration (SE) process under Census 2027 in Jammu and Kashmir, terming it a historic milestone in India’s journey towards digital governance and citizen-centric administration under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking at an awareness programme on Census 2027 Self-Enumeration organized by Trikuta Nagar Mandal President Nitish Mahajan, Mandal Secretary Naresh Chopra, and residents of Trikuta Nagar, Rekha said that for the first time in the country’s history, citizens have been given the opportunity to self-enumerate their household details digitally, making the Census process more transparent, efficient, accurate and participatory. This innovative mechanism is aimed at ensuring greater accuracy, reducing duplication and making the Census exercise more efficient and citizen-friendly.
Rekha Mahajan said the initiative reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to harnessing technology for good governance and public convenience. She noted that from Digital India and online public services to direct benefit transfers and digital payments, the Modi Government has consistently promoted technology-driven reforms that empower citizens and enhance transparency.
“Census 2027 is not merely a data collection exercise; it is a vital nation-building initiative. Accurate Census data forms the foundation for planning infrastructure, healthcare, education, employment programmes, welfare schemes and future development policies. The success of self-enumeration will strengthen evidence-based governance and ensure better delivery of public services,” she said.
Rekha urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to actively participate in the exercise. She particularly encouraged educated youth, professionals and digitally connected households to lead by example and spread awareness about the importance of the Census process.
She further stated that Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed remarkable progress under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, with significant improvements in infrastructure, connectivity, governance and public welfare. The successful implementation of Census 2027 will further contribute to the region’s development and strengthen planning for future generations.
