Early Times Report JAMMU, July 10: The Division of Fisheries, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J), organized a One-Day Workshop and Farmers' Meet to celebrate National Fish Farmers' Day-2026 under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) project titled "Technological Interventions for Fish Seed and Trout Production in UT of J&K" with the research component "Development of Low-Cost Fish Feed." The programme was organized under the dynamic leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. B. N. Tripathi and the guidance of Prof. Sushil Kumar Gupta, Director Research, SKUAST-J. A large number of fish farmers, rural youth, and women from different parts of the Jammu region participated in the programme. Addressing the gathering, Prof. B. N. Tripathi, Vice-Chancellor, emphasized the importance of scientific aquaculture, improved feeding practices, and modern technologies to enhance fish production and farmers' income. He also interacted with the farmers and encouraged them to adopt innovative aquaculture practices. Prof. Sushil Kumar Gupta, Director Research, highlighted the technological interventions being undertaken under the HADP project and discussed the present status of carp and trout production in J&K. Dr. M. S. Bhadwal, Associate Dean, FVSc&AH, appreciated the initiative taken by the fisheries faculty to organize this programme. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Akhil Gupta, Professor (Fisheries) and PI of the HADP project (Fish Feed), who highlighted the development of low-cost, nutritionally balanced fish feed using locally available ingredients at the Fish Nutrition Research Laboratory, SKUAST-J. Expert lectures were also delivered by Dr. Sahar Masud, Dr. Raj Kumar, and Dr. Prem Kumar on scientific fish farming and fisheries technologies. Floating pelleted fish feed was distributed among the participating farmers. The programme concluded with an interactive session in which farmers discussed their experiences and appreciated the efforts of SKUAST-J in promoting sustainable aquaculture in Jammu and Kashmir. |
