Jammu, Sept 30: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said the Narendra Modi government is determined to protect the country’s youth from the scourge of drugs, after a joint operation by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), the Indian Coast Guard and central intelligence agencies led to the seizure of 526 kg of methamphetamine and heroin from an Iranian boat.
The boat was intercepted inside India’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), about 160 nautical miles northwest of Lakshadweep and 490 nautical miles southwest of Mumbai. Five Pakistani nationals were arrested in the operation.
Shah said investigators are now working to identify the wider network behind the consignment and its intended receivers.
Describing the 16-day operation as an example of coordination and cooperation among agencies, the Home Minister said it had also resulted in the seizure of the Iranian boat. |
