| JU pushes academic system to the brink of collapse | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 23: Academic excellence supposed to be the basic motive of any university getting eroded with University of Jammu failing to produce conducive atmosphere for strengthening the education system in the campus.
Sources said that academic session commenced in the month of July 16, but the administration of Jammu University remained unmoved for nearly three months and started interview for the appointment of contractual faculty members in the month of Sept wasting three months of the students to pursue academic study in various departments and offsite campuses of the varsity.
Sources said even in some cases appointment orders have not been issued as yet adding to the woes of students who had no other alternative but to suffer at the hands of university administration. Rather university authority has deplorably failed to put in place time bound mechanism comprising of persons possessing impeccable integrity and administrative acumen power available in the university, sources added.
Interviews were conducted in October for engaging contractual faculty in Computer Science main campus, Kathua, M,Sc IT Kishtwar Bhadarwah campuses,Physics and Electronic Sericulture, Poonch, History, Law School, Psychology main campus , Women Studies, sources said and alleged that issuance of orders in these subjects is yet awaited for unknown reasons.
It was told that interviews in respect of Geography subject for Bhadarwah Campus, Urdu and Dogri subjects for DDE, Economics, for Law School and Udhampur Campus, Library Science are still pending, sources said adding that the fate of enrolled students in these departments/offsite campuses be easily visualized whose examination are nearing fast after one month, they alleged.
They added that some teachers, who were waiting for their contractual appointment in university , were allegedly asked to teach students in offsite campuses on some meagre remuneration till contractual staff is engaged which has been a futile exercise and turned out to be a flop keeping the students in a perplex situation as aspirants got themselves engaged on contractual basis in various Degree Colleges, sources rued.
Slamming the administrative breakdown in the university, sources told that importance of teaching to the students cannot be undermined and as such there is a set system of engaging contractual faculty in government colleges for teaching students during academic session well in time.
Big institution like Jammu University, which is considered as a torch light for other institutions to follow, has still to come out of hibernation and learn the paramount necessity of engaging contractual staff within the stipulated time period vis-à-vis commencement of the academic session. General tendency of the university administration to delay engagement of contractual staff for months together speaks of foul smell in running the administrative affairs by the university authority known for rampant favouritism and nepotism and least bothered for achieving academic excellence, sources alleged. |
