Jammu, Nov 29: A flurry of activity has finally begun in the direction of reconstitution of J&K Pradesh Congress Comm-ittee with Party High Com-mand giving final touches to the likely names being suggested and sought from the senior leaders. The incumbent chief Prof Saif-u-Din Soz is all set to begin fresh innings as the president , even as the new body shall see significant chan-ges in terms of its composition this time. In order to facilitate and expedite the matters related with the move initiated by the High Command, Prof Soz shuttled twice between New Delhi and Jammu during the last couple of days.
Sources said Prof Soz landed in Jammu on Mon-day only to be summoned back in less than 24 hours as Party High Command wanted him immediately there to discuss with a host of vital aspects related to reconstitution of the Prad-esh Committee, a political move which is pending for a long time. While Prof Soz has been asked to continue with the existing role , High command has sought certain changes to be effected in the new face of the Committee in order to make it functionally vibr-ant and active. It is in this connection Prof Soz , who reached Jammu today has once again been asked to report back to help finalize matters , names necessarily for his new body for the J&K state, sources added.
Sources further said while Party leaders looking after J&K affairs in New Delhi have sought a youthful and vibrant look to the new PCC, the role of experienced and old veterans have not been completely ruled out nor would they be kept away from the JKPCC affairs. Prof Soz after consultations with High Command has been conveyed that young people needed to be taken on board who could deliver in an active manner and get a chance to exhibit and explore their political talent, a very significant change that is on cards in terms of the makeup of the new PCC is that no legislators, neither MLAs nor MLC would be among the functionaries of the body, contrary to earlier practices. This move is being seen to be seriously under consideration on two counts - one to provide a whole lot of leaders in waiting a chance to become a part of the prestigious committee and second -to keep the role of legislators confined to their assignments as MLCs or MLAs without much interference in the working of the official body of Congress, sources added.
Sources also said that in order to bring in experience in the working of the JKPCC, the High Command has also sought the services of the old guard , mostly veterans to be utilized in capacity of Advisors for the new body so that they can advise the leadership from time to time as and when required under certain circumstances. While moves are afoot to expedite all the matters, the new body is all set to be announced anytime next week.
