Congress in complete disarray
Impact of ignominious defeat

JAMMU, Dec 11: The massive defeat the Congress suffered in the just-held Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Delhi has shattered the Congress high command comprising Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Both the mother and the son are saying that they would look into the causes that led to the defeat of their party. Rahul Gandhi has gone to the extent of saying that he would turn more aggressive and establish his rapport with the people by giving a new orientation to his party. Sonia Gandhi has said the election results have disappointed the leadership of the party and that she and her colleagues would introspect and stem the rot.
On the other hand, a number of senior Congress leaders have blamed their own colleagues for the party's defeat. Sheila Dikshit, who ruled Delhi for 15-long years and suffered a massive and humiliating defeat at the hands of the AAP candidate, has said it was not her defeat but the defeat of the party. She accused the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee of working against her and the party.
Congress MP Mani Shankar Aiyer without mincing words said that the Congress is destined to sit in the opposition after May 2014 and held the Congress high command responsible for the party defeat in the four states. He lambasted Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi without naming them and said their decision to re-appoint Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister in May 2009 was a bad political decision. He demanded a surgery, saying the present organizational structure is too weak to meet the challenge posed by the BJP and other parties.
Not just this, another Congress MP Satyavrat Chaturvedi dismissed with contempt as conspirator AICC general secretary and political guru of Rahul Gandhi Digvijay Singh and several others in Madhya Pradesh and elsewhere and said they were responsible for the Congress's defeat for the third time in succession. Chaturvedi hails from Madhya Pradesh. As if all this was not enough to add to the woes of the already rather rattled and defeated Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, seven of the Congress MPs from Andhra Pradesh on December 10 moved a motion of no-confidence against the minority and roundly condemned UPA Government. One of them Rajagopal publicly said the Government has lost people's confidence and whether or not they have numbers in the Parliament, it is high time the Government goes.
If what has been happening within the Congress after its defeat is any indication, then it can be said that the Congress is in a deep trouble. The problem with Sonia Congress is that it doesn't have a single leader who can inspire the people and the party cadres. There are political pundits who believe that the Congress has outlived its utility and that its days are just numbered and they appear right.
