As coalition cohesion eludes, Coordination panel too fizzles out...... | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 11: As lack of cohesion and political compatibilty between the two ruling allies National Conference and Congress has reached new high, the highest platform where the two parties could have lightened and lessened their differences on political and governance front- Coordination Commitee also seems to be fizzling out fast. Nearly two months on, the Coordination panel has not met nor have coalition partners honoured any commitment during the previous meetings. In the last meeting of Coordination Committee held sometime in October in the summer capital when Durbar was there, it was given to understand and made known to media that the members of the Coordination commitee from both the parties have agreed among other things the urgency of holding Urban Local Bodies polls as also BDC polls, which have been deliberately delayed by the government for political reasons. In the meetings held prior to this one, Coordination panel also took up the discussion with Congress emphasis on the speeding up of process on steps mandatory for incorporating constitutional amendments that would pave for empowerment of Panchayats. NC members with stalwarts like Ali Mohammad Sagar and AR Rather on board had agreed in principle that NC would submit its report over the issue before the cabinet 'soon'. At least that is what both NC members and the chairman of Coordination COmmitee and PCC chief Prof Saf-u-Din Soz conveyed to media soon after the members dispersed after conducting the meeting in what they termed in congenial atmosphere. However, neither of the commitments have so far been fructified nor has the high level panel held meeting for a long time, even as the Chairman had indicated the 'pending' matters would soon be settled and led to logical conclusions in the next meeting. This meeting, as on date eludes and there is no indication from quarter nor does the existing political scene suggest possibilty of convening the meeting, when the coalition partners have further drifted apart with frictions deepening on various political matters. The only platform on which the partners are sharing seats and meeting eyes is the cabinet meetings during which , as per the soucres the unanimity eludes on a host of issues on agenda, no matter small or insignificant in so far as the day to day functioing of the government is concerned. |
