Women dismiss BJP Vision Document as “fraud” | | | Masood Malik
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 30: The BJP vision document, which was released on Thursday, has disappointed many among its own cadres and other sections of society. The reason is that the BJP has abandoned its ideology to appreciate the separatist sentiments in Kashmir. BJP is the only party which has not released its manifesto despite the fact that it was prepared and printed long time back. All other parties - NC, PDP, Congress and JKNPP - have all released their manifestos and all of them have talked about Article 370. The NC has talked about autonomy, Kashmir issue and AFSPA. The PDP has talked about self-rule, state's special status and Article 370 and Kashmir issue. The Congress has also talked about the state's special status. The JKNPP has talked about the state's reorganization and Article 370. The BJP is the only party which has not referred to the problems of militancy and separatist Movement in Kashmir, and not raised a single political issue concerning J&K in its manifesto. It is also the only party which has not said a single word on army and AFSPA. It has made only vague promises and disappointed not only STs, SCs, OBCs and refugees from West Pakistan, but also women. The vision document of BJP said that the party will "give 33 pc reservation to women in Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council". It is a false promise. It has no place for women in its scheme of things. The BJP, like the Congress and the NC, has hardly given mandate to any woman. The position this time round is also not different. It has given mandate to outsiders and not to a single woman candidate of the party. There are many women activists in BJP, who also hold important positions in the party, but the male-dominated party has given mandate to only two women candidates in Kashmir. One is Hina Bhat, who had threatened to pick up gun and become militant in case BJP abrogated Article 370. She has been given mandate from Amira Kadal Constituency. The other is Darkhshan Andrabi who has been given mandate from Sonawar constituency. Hina and Andrabi joined BJP only recently and the party gave them preferential treatment. Nobody would believe in BJP that has ignored the claims of genuine women activists in Jammu. The point is that many women activists in the party have described the promise of 33 per cent representation in the state legislature as a "fraud". |
