Jammu, Jan 11: A special literary-cum-cultural evening was arranged by Dogri Sanstha to mark the festivities of Lohri at Dogri Sanastha Bhawan Karan Nagar. According to press release, renowned Dogri poets recited their poems reflecting varied aspects of Dogra culture and traditions. The Sanstha Bhavan reverberated with the songs of Lohri traditional sung on this occasion around the bon-fire offering sugar-candy, popcorn, sesame seeds, gur, etc into the fire and sang and danced around it. Chhatrapal, president Dogri Sanstha highlighted the cultural significance of Lohri and merrying traditions of this seasonal festival. Lohri marks the movement of the sun towards the north (Uttaryan) as opposed to the south. (Dakshinayan). It is considered to be an extremely auspicious time as the sun enters the Tropic of Capricorn from the Tropic of Cancer. It is a festival dedicated to the Sun God and fire, he added. Those present on those occasion also included Nirmal Vinod, Promila Manhas, Subhash Sumbaria, Randhir Singh Raipuria, Brij Mohan, Ravi Shanker, and Raj Kumar Bahroopia, Girdhari Rahi ,Susheel Begana, Pritam Katoch, Raj Kumar Sharma, B.M.Dubey, Rajeshwar Bhakhari and Pandit Maharaj Krishan. |
