Government's claims fall flat, flood affected waiting for relief | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Jan 11 : Despite tall claims by the district administration that all the victims of September month's natural calamity have been provided necessary relief material, free ration and financial help for the reconstruction of their damaged houses, victims have been holding protest demonstrations at various places for relief and free ration. During last few days several such protest demonstrations were held by the inhabitants of Rajouri, Sunderbani, Nowshera and Kotranka tehsils at their respective places alleging that administration has failed to provide free ration for the last four months, names of many real flood victims missing from beneficiary lists and blue eyed persons were given undue benefits by the concerned revenue officials. Flood victims from Sunderbani tehsil including Manoj, Vinos, Pinka and others have criticized the Consumer Affairs& Public Distribution (CA&PD) department officials for issuing free ration to some selected people while actual and poor flood victims either have been ignored or their names are missing in the lists of beneficiaries. They warned large scale protest including closing of Jammu-Poonch highway if the department failed to issue free ration to actual victims. "The ration have been provided to those whose names were recommended by the revenue department and CA&PD officials have no role in deleting the names of other victims" said Madan Lal, TSO. Similarly flood victims from village Gakhrot in Kotranka tehsil have also held a protest demonstration before the office of Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) at Kotranka and raised slogans against administration and CA*PD officials. "For the last four months the actual victims have been approaching th e concerned authorities for free ration but it seems that the concerned officials are not bothered about the problems being faced by the people. If failed to wake up soon (concerned officials) a large scale protest demonstration will be held before the office of Deputy Commissioner" said Neeraj. Sukhdev Singh , SDM said that administration has provided free ration to those whose names were forwarded by the concerned revenue officials. The names of the protesters are missing from the beneficiary list and concerned Patwaris have been directed to add their names" said SDM. Bindu Choudhry, sarpanch Chowki (Noushera tehsil) have also accused the administration for deleting the names of poor people from the list of free ration beneficiaries. He demanded inquiry against the revenue officials who added the names of their blue eyed while the people belong to BPL category and are actual flood victims have been kept outside the list. Inhabitants of Mehra situated in the vicinity of Rajouri city have also held protest before the office of Deputy Commissioner on Saturdayraising slogans against district administration and CA&PD officials for not issuing free ration in their favor. Led by Bharat Bhusan Vaid, BJP district president, protesters lambasted the concerned authorities for showing non-cooperative attitude. They alleged that despite several representations to concerned tehsildar and CA&PD officials the concerned dealers have been denying free ration to them. The protesters met with Saleem Malik, ADC and apprised him about their problems.
