Jammu, Jan 14: The Ex-Servicemen Cell of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) welcomed announcements made by the Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar that the various measures taken by the government. As per press release, State Convener of the cell Brig Anil Gupta said that -pro-active steps to counter Pak sponsored proxy war and repeated violations of ceasefire, not to pursue court cases against ex-servicemen and disabled soldiers, on-line enrolment for recruitment in the army and implementation of One Rank One Pension (OROP)-these decisions of the government would have far reaching effect on the welfare of the large veteran community and the residents of border areas in the state. He hoped that the proactive measures initiated by the government would soon fructify and force Pakistan to stop unprovoked violation of ceasefire and shelling of the civilian areas. He also appreciated the measures taken by the Modi government to create "safe-zones" in the rear areas close to the border for which the state government has been asked by the union home ministry to identify land. He thanked the central government for the sincerity displayed by the home ministry in mitigating the plight of the border residents and addressing their long pending grievances as a result of total neglect by the previous governments. "This decision of the Modi government has proved beyond doubt that the government cares not only for the serving personnel but the ex-servicemen as well and exhorted the Defence Minister to ensure fool proof implementation of his direction lest the bureaucracy puts any spanner," he added. He appealed to the Defence Minister to organise special recruitment rallies in the border districts of the state so that the youth of these areas get a chance to serve the motherland. The initiatives taken to resolve the long pending demand of the veterans regarding implementation of One Rank One Pension are soon going to bear the fruit and financially benefit the veteran community. "Parrikar has assured that the money would be paid to the veterans before July 2015. The Defence Minister has also been urged to look into the functioning of Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) and give it a new fillip and direction, "he stated. |
