What's stopping Rana, NC from supporting West Pak refugees? | Is offering support only 'in larger public interest'! | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 14: After Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spurned its unconditional support offer to form the next government in the state, National Conference today tried to save its face by claiming that it had offered support to PDP in view of the "larger public interest." Interestingly, the "larger public interest" statement was issued by none other than Devender Singh Rana, NC's provincial president and "Friday man" of the former chief minister, Omar Abdullah, who has been playing all the tricks since December 23, 2014, when results of the recent assembly polls were declared, to become a part of the next government despite facing humiliating defeat. Someone needs to ask Rana and his boss (Omar Abdullah) is not granting citizenship rights to refugees from Western Pakistan a public interest? These unfortunate people have been deprived of their rights for the past six decades and are living as aliens in their own land. Then why is NC opposing it? Had National Conference been sincere it would not have adopted double standards over the issue. When Omar Abdullah was in power he forced Centre to formulate a policy to facilitate the return of militants who had crossed over to Pakistan for arms training. If the people who waged a war against the Indian union can be brought back, then why can't these people who are facing humiliation since 1947 be granted citizenship rights? If Rana and his party really care about "larger public interest" they should come out in open and support the citizenship rights for West Pakistan refugees. What's stopping them? |
