Mehbooba likely to be re-elected as PDP Chief | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 20: Mehbooba Mufti is likely to be reelected as President of the PDP for which the election is to be held on January 24. Party sources said that though the members of the elect oral college have been invited to be present in Jammu on January 24 to elect the president of the party Mehbooba may be reelected unopposed. Sources said that some party leaders would have suggested the name of Mufti Mohd. Sayeed for the post of Presidentship had not the Mufti being tipped to become the Chief Minister. The PDP leadership believes in the policy of one man one post. What seems to have weighed in favor of Mehbooba's reelection as party chief is that during her president Ship the party had assumed added political weight which is evident from having won all the three Lok Sabha seats in the Kashmir valley and PDP emerged as largest single party with 28 seats in recently held Assembly Polls. That Mehbooba has displayed great organizational capacity is said to have motivated a major section in the party to support her reelection as PDP Chief. Party sources said that there would be no major reshuffle as far as the office bearers of the party are concerned. They said minor changes may be carried out to accommodate elected legislators in the executive committee and some of them could be appointed as secretary, general secretary and vice presidents. Senior PDP leaders are said to be in favor of Mufti Sayeed to remain as the patron of the party so that Mehbooba and other office bearers worked under his guidance.
