Mechanical department, administration trade charges | Lifts in SMGS hospital fail to take off | | Nitesh Sangral Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 20: As administration and the Mechanical engineering department of the GMC and Associated Hospitals trade charges, lifts at the pediatric block of the SMGS hospital have failed to take off ever since their installation several years back. Officials Sources told Early Times that two lifts were installed in the additional Pediatric block around five years back but they have been lying defunct ever since. "Neither the hospital administration has released any funds for their till date, nor applied for Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC)" they added. Superintendent of SMGS hospital Dr. Dara Singh told Early Times that ever since the building was handover to hospital administration by JKPCC, the lifts have been lying defunct. "We took up matter with the Mechanical Department of hospital timely but nothing has been done to repair the lifts," he claimed adding, "We have held meeting with Principal GMC and Mechanical Department to take steps for making the lifts functional and the officials of Mechanical Department assured they will get the lifts repaired as soon as possible." However, contesting the claims of Medical Superintendent, AEE Mechanical Department, Vikas Gupta said more than five reminders have been sent to the administration for sanctioning requisite funds to undertake the repairs, but they didn't release any funds till date. Meanwhile, the patients are forced to use either the stairs or the ramp which is not advisable for many of them, particularly the critically sick patients. |
