Defunct solar energy park punctures Dr Farooq's claims | | | Bijay Charak Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 20: The defunct district level Energy Park established at GDC Kathua mocks at the tall claims of former union minister DrFarooq Abdullah about he bringing a revolution in the renewable energy sector in Jammu and Kashmir. Sources told Early Times a district level solar energy park was established at Government Boys Degree College Kathua in 2010 to create awareness among the students about uses and benefits of renewable energy systems and devices but the purpose for which the park was established stands defeated as most gadgets are lying defunct since they day these were installed. " Nearly Rs 18 lakhs, out of which Rs 10 lakhs were given by the union ministry of New and Renewable energy, were spent to set up the solar energy park but the park became defunct soon after it was established," sources added. They said the gadgets renewable energy devices, which were installed in the boys GDC Kathua including improved chula, biogas plant, SPV street lights, SPV domestic lights, SPV lanterns, SPV color TV, SPV pump, Solar educational kit, solar cooker, SWHS 200 LPD and solar cabinet dryer have become useless while only a few streetlights of the institution blink sometimes. Sources said despite repeated communications to concerned department, none of the official bothered to repair the same. "The plant has failed to serve any purpose as the gadgets went out of order after a one year", sources said, "The only job of former Union minister was to install solar plants and make payments to contractors and get his due share out of it," sources alleged. When contacted College principal Professor B L Gupta said that a few gadgets didn't function since the day these were installed, many times we apprised the concerned authorities about the matter but no one paid any heed towards our complaints. |
