Delegation calls on Nirmal Singh | Seeks relocation of Sai Trg Centre at Jammu | |  Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 20: A delegation comprising parents of former inmates and other sportsmen of Jammu and Udhampur called on BJP MLA and senior leader Dr. Nirmal Singh and demanded immediate relocation of Training centre of the Sports Authority of India in Jammu. The Sai Training Centre located in Udhampur was to be relocated in Jammu and proposal in this regard was finalized between authorities of J&K State Sports Council and the Sports Authority of India, but after several meetings in this regard, the Training centre could not be relocated at MA Stadium as per the proposal. An extension centre of the STC is also proposed to be set up in Srinagar. The delegation, led by Baldev Raj Choudhary urged the MLA to take up the issue with the concerned authorities to expedite the process. Dr. Nirmal Singh called Secretary J&K Sports Council and asked him to expedite the process so that the training centre could be made operational in Jammu at the earliest. He was assured by the Secretary Dilip Thussu that the Sports Council would take immediate steps to facilitate the setting up of SAI training centre in Jammu. It is pertinent to mention here that Sai training centre is an elite residential scheme of the Sports Authority of India, wherein selected sportsmen are inducted for sustained training and offered free boarding lodging and scholarships. |
