DDC Reasi holds Road Safety Committee meeting | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 19: In order to review road safety measures taken after February 11 district road safety committee (DRSC) meet, District Development Commissioner Reasi (DDC) Sushma Chauhan today chaired District Road Safety Committee meeting. According to press release, presiding over the meeting, DDC said "Every day many lives are lost and people become disabled due to road accidents. It affects entire families. But the tragedy can be prevented by spreading awareness about various aspects of road safety". We also need to better educate the public, that includes following laws, being better defensive drivers, and gauging road conditions, Chauhan added. DDC also instructed Education, Transport and Police department to work in consonance with each other to ensure safety of students going to schools in buses of educational institutes. Assistant Road & Transport Officer Reasi gave a detailed presentation regarding the measures taken to avoid road accidents, awareness drives for drivers and common people and punitive steps for defaulters. Chief Medical Officer Reasi informed that the health department is giving training to all its officials at block levels as well as officials from other departments regarding disaster management so that in case of any emergency, they can themselves provide first aid to the injured. While, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Reasi -Sujit Kumar informed that the Traffic police has already identified accident prone areas (black spots) and analyzed the reasons of fatal accidents occurring in these areas; he agreed to share the same with the committee members, so that remedial measures to avoid accidents by different departments can be taken in these areas. The concerned officers of the Border Road Organization (BRO), Traffic and Transport were directed by the DDC to conduct audit of the road safety on quarterly basis and hold meetings the dates of which shall be conveyed to all the members of the committee. She further exhorted upon the members of the DRSC to co-ordinate with the District Disaster Management Committee and Quick Reaction Team -the concerned NGO dealing with disaster management, conduct Road Safety Audit within the territorial limits of the District and advise for the measures to be taken for mitigating the road accidental deaths and for better management of traffic within the district. |
