Jammu, Feb 19: The unwarranted delay of more than three months on the part of The Directorate of Economics & Statistics Jammu and Kashmir to issue the transfers orders of around thirty Statistical Officers who completed their departmental orientation training has caused huge loss to the state exchequer as they drew salaries to the tunes of lakhs for sitting idle for more than three months. Sources told Early Times that The Directorate of Economics & Statistics had conducted training of around thirty Statistical Officers, fifteen each from Jammu division and Kashmir division which commenced in July 2014 for the period of 3-4 months. "The training of these Statistical Officers which was prerequisite for their promotions was held at two places at Statistical Training Center Jammu and Statistical Training Center Srinagar but the training of just three months was completed in seven months", they said. They further informed that the training was completed, exams were conducted subsequently result were also declared three months ago but their transfers were withheld by Directorate of Economics & Statistics due to unknown reasons which created resentment among the officers who underwent training and were rendered without work for more than three months who drew salaries to the tune of lakhs from the state exchequer for doing nothing. "At an average the monthly salary of a Statistical Officer is Rs 40,000 and the salary of 15 SOs from Jammu division who were kept idle for three months is amounted to Rs 18 lakhs, similarly the salary of 15 SOs from Kashmir division is amounted to Rs 18 lakhs, the total loss to the state exchequer has been estimated to around Rs 33 lakhs by not utilizing their services," sources informed. Sources said that as per guidelines, the training period for Junior Statistical Assistant is 6 months, for Statistical Assistant is 9 months and for the Statistical Officers it has been fixed 3-4 months. However, after facing huge criticism, The Directorate of Economics & Statistics Jammu and Kashmir has released the transfer orders of these 30 SOs just few days back but no official in has been held responsible this undue delay by which state suffered loss of lakh of rupees for keeping them idle. |
