BJP creates history, gets member from Kashmir in Council | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Feb 19 : Bhartiya Janata Party created history on Thursday when it is nominated candidate got elected unopposed to State Legislative Council. This is for the first time that BJP will have a member, Sofi Yousuf from Kashmir in Council. Those who have been elected to Council unopposed are Sofi Yousuf (Kashmir) and Chering Dorjey (Leh) both from BJP and PDP's Inayat Ali (Kargil), Firdous Tak (Jammu) and Yasir Reshi (Kashmir).Sources in Council said that though the two candidates of BJP and three from PDP have been elected uncontested to the State Legislative Council, but a formal announcement about it will be made only on March 2 when polling is fixed for 11 vacancies in the Legislative Council which have arisen either due to retirement of members or their election to the Legislative Assembly. Dorjey of BJP and Inayat Ali of PDP will have full six years term in the Council in view of their election against vacancies arising out of the retirement of their previous incumbents, Sofi Yousuf and Tak will have four year term in the House in view of their election against vacancies arising after the election of Abdul Majid Bhat Laram and Devender Rana (both NC) to the Legislative Assembly last year. Reshi's term will, however, last for only two years as he has been elected against vacancy caused by PDP's Mohammad Ashraf Mir. |
