GGMS Rajouri stages protest against 'sewage flowing' in school | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Feb 19 : Student of Government Girls Middle School in the heart of old Rajouri city today held a protest against the district administration, Chief Education Officer (CEO) Rajouri and officials of PWD department for their alleged casual approach toward unhygienic conditions prevailing in school especially in rainy season. Students alleged that whenever there is heavy rain the sewage water from Municipality drain which passes from near their school building, overflows the school complex and at times even in their class rooms forcing school authorities to declare a 'holiday.' Today once again school complex turns into a small pond carrying polythene bags, garbage and thus Shahbaz Khan, headmaster of the school was compelled to close the school unofficially at about 1.45 pm. Immediately after the school was declared closed about 150 girl student came out of the classes and held a protest demonstration raising slogans against the district administration, Chief Education Officer (CEO) and PWD officials. Nahida Kousar and Jayoti Devi alleged that for the last more than 4 years the students of this school have been complaining to the concerned authorities including successive Deputy Commissioners about their problem but no step has been taken to mitigate this problem. Headmaster of School Shahbaz Khan said that after several complaints and after protest by the students PWD authorities carried out some repair work in the month of March,2014 to stop the water entering the school complex but that also proved futile. "During heavy rains in August, 2013 the then Deputy Commissioner Hemant Kumar along with additional Deputy Commissioner had visited the school and had passed necessary directions to the concerned authorities (CEO and PWD officials). Recently the matter was also taken up in the notice of Jatinder Kumar (recently transferred) Deputy Commissioner but all in vain, said Headmaster. HA Fani, CEO said that the matter was taken up with Hangloo, Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) during his visit to the complex and he has assured an early solution to the problem. |
