Early Times Report

Kathua, Feb 22 : Miffed over the working of Traffic Police the local citizens, especially the owners of jeep/cars staged protest demonstration at Mukherjee Chowk alleging that Traffic Police is harassing vehicle owners by lifting their vehicles from dissimilar parts of the city.
Leading the protesters PDP leader Rakesh Kumar Babli from last few days the sleuths of Traffic Department are picking the vehicles from dissimilar parts of the city against violation of parking rules. Another protester said that the sleuths release the vehicle after paying fine of Rupees Six Hundred, which is too much and sometimes the people who had came from far-off places do not have that much amount to pay.
He alleged that in its endeavor to check unabated traffic violations in the City, it seems as if the traffic police had turned a Nelson's eye.
"It is not only the car owners are violating the norms but two wheeler riders and other passenger vehicles too are violating the laws", he miffed.
Moreover, the school going students are the one, who are ahead of everybody found involved in violation of traffic rules. Such type of minors not only makes themselves to face danger however, put the life of other commuters and pedestrians too in hazard.
"What is more disturbing is that the traffic authorities are allegedly letting the violators go scot-free for pecuniary considerations. The traffic authorities do not keep a regular check as they get their weekly share from the bus and matador operators, putting precious lives at risk," he alleged. It would be better in Traffic Police despite harassing car owners divert their attention towards the other violators.
When contacted with DTI City said that the department, do not have any concern with the parking problem. There are orders from department to keep the roads clear and we are just performing duty for the sake of public.
