Uneasiness in Cong over surrendering everything to NC in LC elections | | | ET Report Jammu, Feb 22: Surrendering every thing to the "estranged" coalition partner National Conference in the Legislative Council elections has created resentment in the Congress party because party leaders were not happy over the way high command has decided to give both the contestable seats to the National Conference. Officially Congress leaders are tightlipped over giving both the contestable seats to the National Conference, internally they have raised their voice against this decision. In today's meeting which was held under the leadership of Pradesh Congress Committee chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz to formulate strategy for Legislative Council elections, some Congress MLAs raised question over surrendering both the seats to National Conference. They said that such policy of surrendering everything to NC would be proved counter-productive for party in the future because it will help NC to regain its lost ground in Kashmir Valley and in hilly areas of Jammu province. Credible sources said that some MLAs, while registering their protest against giving every thing to NC in the Legislative Council elections, suggested that party leadership should demand adequate share in the next phase of Legislative Council elections which would be held after one year. Meanwhile, according to a handout issued by the party, Prof. Saifuddin Soz took a meeting of MLAs of the Congress party today at the Party Headquarters, Shaheedi Chowk, Jammu. Those present included Nawang Rigzin Zora, Ghulam Mohammad Saroori, Aijaz Ahmed Khan, Haji Abdul Rashid Dar, Gulzar Ahmed Wani, Dildan Namgyal, Ashgar Karbalai, and Mumtaz Ahmed Khan. The following members who were away in Kashmir and elsewhere included Mohammad Amin Bhat, Usman Majid and Mohammad Akram. The meeting was informed that Vikar Rasool Wani had gone to Makkah, for Umrah. Prof. Soz earnestly requested the MLAs to vote for the two candidates fielded by the Jammu Kashmir National Conference for election to the J&K Legislative Council. The legislators assured Prof. Soz that they would vote in the election for the candidates fielded by the Jammu Kashmir National Conference. |
