Stunning 'revelations' to Congress' debacle in Assembly polls | Money changed hands much before 'contest' …..? | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 22: There was more to Congress' debacle attributed to just anti incumbency factor and Modi wave which prevailed during the Assembly elections in the state. Congress as entire unit did realize their decimation in anticipation but some senior leaders of the party conceded their defeat much before they faced the contest for a 'reason'. It was more of a sell out strategy they allowed themselves to get entrapped at the hands of the rivals. The entire 'game plan' is now under the scrutiny of party's leadership and an informal investigation process has set in to look into facts of some stunning revelations. Sources within the party said that post Assembly results as each and every constituency is being studied and analysed by the party leadership, certain things are unfolding in some constituencies of Jammu region wherein the calculation of votes polled in favour of Congress suggest unusual aberration in the voting pattern. Some constituencies in Rajouri and Poonch districts which have remained traditional strongholds of Congress have indicated a sharp deviation and unusualness in the number of votes polled in favour of party . It was this abnormality which have forced the leadership to believe the allegations that some Congress' sitting members had not actually worked leave alone having toiled for the elections in their constituencies. Congress has not got even numbers from die hard supporters or workers which have for decades remained as traditional voters of the party, come what may, immaterial of the fact who the winner emerged. Sources further said that the leadership has come to know that money had changed hands and the sitting MLAs of the party had been heavily 'influenced' by the rivals through some religious gurus who worked as 'mediators ' or catalytical agents in the deals. " How is it possible that in constituencies where Congress has been playing as front runner with huge leads in the previous elections could not manage votes in even hundreds……it is virtually a scam of votes for which our own people are to blame…" said a party leader. A similar pattern has been seen in some places in Udhampur district where Congress could not garner respectable number of votes, no matter the party did not expect victory on these constituencies. The Congress leadership has also come to know that the party candidates did not come out in open towards the end of campaign when their efforts should have been more and the their pitch should have been loud. They did not even come out nor were their posters seen as against a riot of such poll paraphernalia from their rivals, said the leader. It was a stage managed defeat by the party candidates for a personal gain, he said, adding that all these revelations are however being investigated thoroughly to examine their ambiguous role in the polls. |
