Jammu, Feb 26: Sailing on the superb performance from Matinder Pal Singh, Ajit Club today lifted the State Senior men's Hockey Championship which was organised by Hockey Jammu and Kashmir at K K Hakhu Stadium, here. In the title clash, Ajit Club trounced Zorawar Club 4-1 in the well contested game this afternoon. Matinder Pal Singh struck twice in the 20th and 57th minute. The second goal came through penalty stroke while the first was a field goal. Gurpreet (32nd penalty corner) and Satbir Singh (44th) were other scorers. From Zorawar Club, the lone goal came through Harsh Vaid in the 52nd minute. Today's final officiated by the technical penal comprising Charanjit Singh, Jagjit Singh, Iqbal Singh, Amarjit Singh, Joginder Singh and Dalbir Mehta as also GS Bakshi. In the prize distribution function, Inspector General of J&K Armed Police, Mukesh Singh was invited as chief guest, but he could make it to the venue due to preoccupations. The winners and runners-up trophies were given away by Standing Committee member of the State Sports Council, Ranjit Kalra, who was made chief guest by the organisers, Hockey Jammu and Kashmir. Prominent among others present were general secretary of Hockey Jammu and Kashmir, Romal Singh and other office bearers of thee Association. Meanwhile, the sub-junior boys' final, otherwise scheduled for today, has been postponed for a later date after one of the finalist teams lodged protest alleging overage boys in the opponent team. |
