Jammu, Feb 26: The School of Philosophy and Culture, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVD University) Katra organized 'Noth-Western Philosophy Teachers' Meet", sponsored by Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR), New Delhi from February 25- 27, 2015. According to press release, the inaugural session was presided over by Prof. Sudhir K. Jain (Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, SMVD University) and the Guest of Honour was Dr. M. P. Singh (Member Secretary, ICPR New Delhi). Prof Ved Kumari Ghai and Prof. V. K. Bhat (Dean) were also at the dais. Dr. P. P. Singh from Govt. College for Women, Parade, highlighted the concern over the least interest of student for opting philosophy in higher education in the state of J&K despite there are around two and a half thousand students opting the subject at UG level in different colleges of the state. Also, there is only one university (SMVDU) that offer PhD in philosophy in the State. He expressed his concern over the state govt.'s callousness in filling the 9 vacant positions in philosophy at college levels. Dr. V. K. Tripathi (Director, SOPC) welcomed all guests. Dr. A. K. Tewari (Coordinator) introduced the concept note of the meet. Dr. Singh highlighted the significance of Philosophy as a discipline. Prof. S. K. Jain emphasized the need of Philosophy in every walk of life. Prof. Ghai explained the importance of moral teachings in day to day conduct. The session concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by S. S. Sharma. |
