Hurdles for Kishtwar city roads widening over | Road Projects amounting Rs 91.30 cr finalized | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 26: Much to the delight of people of Kishtwar and to the commuters travelling to Kishtwar, after nearly 33 years of long wait the much awaited road widening project from Malipath to Kuleed Chowk Kishtwar finally gets a nod after a DRP prepared by the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department was cleared by the government. While divulging the details of these projects, the District Development Commissioner Kishtwar Mohammad Javed Khan today said that two major road projects costing Rs 91.30 crores include the widening and metalling of road stretch from Varda Bridge to Malipeth Kishtwar (14 KM) amounting Rs 51.89 crores and the widening of Main road of Kishtwar costing Rs 39.41 crores was finalized and the work on these two road projects will start shortly. DC Kishtwar appreciated the special efforts of Chief Engineer R&B Jammu Abdul Hamid Sheikh and his team comprising of S.E. R&B Doda - Kishtwar, Executive Engineer R&B Kishtwar and AEE R&B Kishtwar. He said that it was only due to untiring efforts of R&B department that the Detail Project Reports of these two vital projects were finalized in record time of one week. He informed that the widening project of Main road will also include two deep drains and two service lanes on both sides of the road, added that keeping in view of the daily increase in vehicular traffic in Kishtwar augmented by heavy rush of Machail yatra, Sarthal Devi yatra , Mindal Mata yatra, Urs Sharief of Hazrat Shah Farid ud Din Sahib Baghdadi (RTA) and Shah Asrar ud Din Sahib Bagdadi (RTA), the widened main road with service lanes on both sides has become the need of the hour. He also lauded the role of MLA Kishtwar Sunil Kumar Sharma and said that he also put great efforts to finalize these projects by holding series of meetings between the Chief Engineer and District Development Commissioner Kishtwar. "I also hail Chief Engineer Abdul Hamid Sheikh for keeping the Batote- Kishtwar National Highway open in spite of heavy snowfall and rainfall for past 3 days in the area," said DC Kishtwar and at the same time he also advised the general public to avoid travelling in late hours as heavy snow and rains are triggering landslides and shooting stones on the road. He said that the District administration Kishtwar and R&B authorities are constantly monitoring the road condition and required precautionary measures are being taken, beside men and machinery is put in place at certain weak points and emergency services have been geared up for any untoward incident. It is pertinent to mention that due to political hurdles, the road widening on 2.5 KM road stretch from Malipath to Kuleed Chowk Kishtwar has become a major headache for the administration and the government, but finally the project was cleared once the road was transferred to R&B Department from central agency GREF who was removed from this prestigious road project only couple of months ago over the allegation of poor and substandard construction. The people attributed the road clearance project to Governor N N Vohra and also as first success for newly elected MLA Kishtwar with further hope that problem of drinking water faced by the people of Kishtwar will also be addressed at an earliest. |
