Jammu, Feb 27: In a major achievement against interstate narcotics smugglers, the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu Kashmir Police today busted an interstate gang of narcotics peddlers, arrested five smugglers including a Punjab based woman besides making a huge seizure of contraband i.e. 2 kgs of Heroin which was recovered from them. Police sources have identified the accused namely as Mushtaq Ahmed Ganai, Ishfaq Ganai, Mohammad Imran, Mushtaq Ahmed Bhat (all residents of Kulgam- Kashmir) and Daljeet Kour of Ludhiana Punjab. "On specific information that some smugglers are smuggling heroin to neighbouring Punjab state from Shopian in a truck loaded with apples, police sources said adding that a team of Special Operation Group (SOG) led by SP Udhay Bhaskar intercepted the truck near Gangyal. "During thorough search of the vehicle, the team recovered 2 kgs of Heroin concealed in the apple boxes and three persons travelling in the truck were arrested and consignment was seized", said a police official. He added that the arrested accused on sustained questioning revealed that they were carrying the consignment to Punjab and a woman narcotics peddler of Ludhiana is also following them in a maruti car. "Acting promptly on the information, the SOG sleuths also arrested the woman who was accompanied by another local guide hailing from Srinagar. Later, the seized consignment, truck and maruti car and arrested persons were handed over to Gangyal Police for further legal course in this regard. |
