Awareness on e-waste management organized

Jammu, Feb 28: Earth Sense Recycle Private Limited-an E-waste Management company- with the support of Jammu and Kashmir State Pollution Control Board, Jammu organized an awareness program on e-waste Management.
According to press release, a Mobile Collection Vehicle was flagged off by Abdul Razak, Chairman, J&K SPCB along with Showkat Chowdhary, Regional Director.
The Chairman SPCB appreciated the initiative taken by the company as per the directions issued by the Board under E-waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2011 to ensure compliance of the responsibilities of Producers laid under said Rules.
He asserted that only such initiatives can boost collection and channelization of end- of -use electrical and electronic equipments in a scientific manner. He also requested all other Producers to follow the similar initiatives so that things should be done on ground. He also deliberated that e-waste management is at an infancy stage in the State and State Govt. is keen to boost electronics industry and e-waste recycling industry.
Showkat Chowdhary, Regional Director, SPCB Jammu apprised about the increasing quantities of E-waste with changing life style and a need to establish well integrated collection mechanism by the Producers. He also asked the producers to comply with the Rules, so as to ensure effective collection and scientific disposal of e-waste.
Jivanand Sharma, EE, J&K SPCB also exerted upon that an important aspect in the process of compliance of the rules is the creation of awareness among the stakeholders on the various aspects of the issue including the requirement for the environmentally sound management of the products at the end of life.
Neelu Sharma, PSO, J&K SPCB briefed about the role of Producers under Rules and need to conduct such effective awareness programs on regular basis. She also exerted upon the Producers to make such programs at school levels so as to make aware our future generation.
