Jammu, Feb 28: Despite the fact that several ayurvedic (Indian System of Medicines) doctors and pharmacists are running from pillar to post to get jobs, their several posts are laying vacant in various ISM dispensaries across state for years. In district Samba, out of 14 ISM dispensaries, 3 are being run by pharmacists in the absence of doctors. Sources in ISM department said that in district Samba 14 post of doctors and 17 posts of pharmacists were sanctioned years back. "Out of the 14 sanctioned posts of ISM doctors in district Samba, 3 are lying vacant for years, which are now run by pharmacists. Moreover, out of 17 sanctioned strength of pharmacists, 5 are lying vacant", the sources added. Sources said it was very interesting that in absence of doctors in few dispensaries at Sarrna, Rajpura and Challarian, pharmacists were running them. "In the last few years, many ISM doctors have attained retirement but no new doctor has been recruited by the authorities", sources said. "It is still unknown whether the authorities concerned have sent the communication to government or not for the advertisement of posts", sources said.Sources said that ISM dispensaries were very useful in far flung areas and also in villages. "ISM dispensaries are the backbone of medical system in our country but due to the rise of allopathic sector, the government attention towards ISM is diminishing", they said."It is the responsibility of Director to take up the matter with the government. Already the interest of youth towards ISM is decreasing and if there will be employment avenues in the sector, the interest of youth will also increase and the village folk will be benefited to a great extent as the ISM system is very cheap and people get medicines free of cost", sources said. Despite repeated calls, ISM Director, Dr Abdul Kabir Dar didn't pick the call.
