Hurriyat hawk senses Pak has lost proxy war, time has come to close down Azadi shops | After 25-yrs of bloodshed, Geelani realizes talks are only way out | | ET Report Jammu, Mar 21: Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani has dropped a bombshell by asserting that he would support the dialogue process on Kashmir "only if it is aimed at solving Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of its people." The veteran hardliner has always opposed the talk's process and has maintained that fighting New Delhi is the only way out. Geelani led Hurriyat Conference and its activists have always waited for a chance to call for a shutdown or protest. They believe disrupting the normal life across the Valley is the best way of fighting New Delhi. They never bother about the miseries and hardships which people face due to uncalled shutdown calls and protests. Someone needs to tell Geelani sahib, has he ever peeped outside his Hyderpora residence to ascertain wishes and aspirations of people. Masses are fed up of violence and undue disruption in their normal lives. They want peace and prosperity to prevail. Their aspirations revolve around building their lives and future of their children they are no more interested in violence and hollow slogans. Many people are of the opinion that Geelani's chance to taken an initiative and hold a dialogue to restore normalcy in this strife torn state is over. It seems Hurriyat hawk too has realized that his theory of separatism has lost relevance and people cannot be fed by raising hollow slogans. Geelani sahib needs to peep into the past and just analyze that how people have suffered during the past 25-years. The senseless violence, which Geelani and his colleagues advocated, led to the mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley and more than one lakh people have died during the past two and a half decades. After so much of bloodshed and people losing their roots Geelani sahib has suddenly realized that talks should be held to sort out the differences. "One needs to ask Geelani sahib that how come he has changed his heart. Is it that people sitting across the Line of Control (LoC) have told him to soften his stand as they cannot keep on fighting the lost proxy war, which Pakistan had raged against India in JK 25-years ago," said an analyst. Recalling 2010 summer unrest in Kashmir the analyst said, "When Kashmir was burning Indian leaders left no stone unturned to douse the flames in the Valley. An All Party Delegation (APD) visited Geelani's residence at Hyderpora in uptown Srinagar and tried its best to convince him to hold talks and diffuse the tension but Geelani refused to relent and termed dialogue as futile. He (Geelani) was under the impression that he would call the shots forever. However, people gave him a befitting reply and defied his shutdown calendar and punctured 2010 agitation which was spearheaded by Geelani and his men. Only regret people had that 2010 unrest claimed 120 precious lives." Another Kashmir watcher said: "It seems Geelani has realized that Azadi shops cannot run for long and time has come to close these down as the country at whose behest JK was turned into a battleground faces a threat of getting disappeared from the world map as the guns which it had nurtured for other countries are roaring in its backyard." |
