Engineers celebrate 'World Water Day' | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 22: The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre celebrated "World Water Day" today on 22nd March, 2015 at Institutional Complex, Channi Himmat, Jammu by holding a Seminar on theme topic "Water and Sustainable Development". The seminar was attended by a large number of engineers from various departments and organizations. The seminar was chaired by Mr. Pravez Ahmed Malik, IAS., Secretary to Govt. PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Department, J&K Govt., Jammu. The function was presided over by H. C. Jerath, FIE; Chairman of The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre. At the outset, Er. Hem Chander Jerath, FIE; Chairman of Jammu Centre presented the Welcome Address in which he enlightened the house about this year's theme topic on World Water Day. Four papers on the theme topic were presented by Er. B. L. Rawal, MIE; Er. Vijay Kumar Sharma, MIE; Er. Supinder Jeet Singh, AMIE and Er. Rajesh Kumar Angural on the theme topic "Water and Sustainable Development". The speakers emphasized on the judicial use of water and suggested various practices for water conservation and management. It was proposed in the seminar to integrate water and sustainable development on the foundation of social and environmental factors and participation of all the stakeholders in making it a reality. The speakers lamented the shrinking water resources in J&K State in view of indiscriminate cutting of trees and reckless disposal of sewage and domestic wastes in these water resources and excessive use of pesticides and insecticides in their catchment areas. Some other water management techniques which can be adopted by all individuals at home were also suggested by the speakers to conserve this precious resources for mankind in the future times to come. |
