Sikh community demands 'minority status' in J&K | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 28: Various functionaries of different Sikh community organizations under the banner of Khalsayee Jammu Kashmir held a meeting at Srinagar under the administration of S Dilbagh Singh in which the membesr discussed various issues related to community and unanimously raised the demand of minority status to the microscopic Sikh community in Jammu and Kashmir. Members during this meeting observed that the Sikh community is a microscopic minority in the state and has always been the victims of the apathy of ruling class. Speakers in this meeting said, "A ray of hope has emerged from the horizons from the day the coalition govt has taken the reins of the Jammu and Kashmir state." They reminded top leadership during election compaigns, have hinted granting of 'minority status' to Sikh community and that needs to be fulfilled. Hoping that the PDP-BJP govt in J&K shall take since efforts to grant minority status to the Sikh community in the J&K state in light of the Minority Act of the Govt of India, the speakers said that the demand of the Sikh community to which no government has paid any heed since decades. |
