Hike of pension of disabled: DB directs SWD to file affidavit | | | Jammu, Mar 28: A Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Bansi Lal Bhat today directed Social Welfare Department to file affidavit to report as to number of persons who are getting benefits under the various pension schemes for disabled and old age persons from the state of Jammu & Kashmir and when the scheme introduced and initially how much was paid as pension update. This significant direction has been passed in response to petition filed by Shushil Kumar Sharma Chairman Disabled Welfare Association that at present the pension of handicapped persons of J&K State is very low comparing to other states. "At the present Uttrakhad has paid Rs 800/- to old age and handicapped persons and widows and in Harayana Rs 1000/- has been to old age and handicapped persons and widows, submitted petitioner. In the letter it has been further submitted that during the 2nd last assembly sessions, it was decided that this shall be enhanced within six months, but no action has been taken so far and further submitted that day by day the process of daily use items and other things are increasing and it is very difficult for the disabled persons categories to manage their daily life and they are waiting for immediate decision i.e. enchantment of their pensions and in the letter it has been further submitted that even out of these categories some persons are facing acute shortage of finances to get proper medical treatment.
