Shocker! BJP MLC says Masarat Alam is like our brother | | | Saahil Suhail
Early Times Report
Anantnag, Apr 23: Describing Masarat Alam "like our brother," BJP leader and party's member of the Legislative Council from south Kashmir, Sofi Mohammad Yousuf on Thursday said the BJP had no role in fresh detention of the hardline separatist leader. Masarat Alam "is like our brother, we have no complaints with him, but he indulged in unlawful activities and was booked under the law of the land. If tomorrow I will get involved in any unlawful activity same law will be applied on me also," Sofi told reporters in his native area Srigufwara after touring hailstorm affected orchids there. Sofi insisted that the BJP had no role in the re-arrest of Alam who was booked under Public Safety Act on Thursday for 'waging war against the country' after he raised Pakistani slogans in a rally organized in Srinagar on April 15 to welcome Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani's arrival from New Delhi. Sofi, however, was quick to add that the slogans like 'Jeevay jeevay Pakistan' and rising Pakistani flags were unacceptable to him. "Through your medium I would like to convey to the separatists that India is our country and slogans like 'Jeevay jeevay Paksitan' are unacceptable," he said. Alam, the alleged architect of the 2010 street protests in Kashmir, was arrested by Budgam police last week. He is also facing sedition charges along with Geelani, Hurriyat spokesman Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah, Mehraj-ud-Din Kalwal and two more Hurriyat activists. Chief Judicial Magistrate Budgam on Wednesday denied bail to Alam, and on Thursday PSA was slapped on him and he was shifted to Kotbalwal Jail in Jammu. Last week, Home Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated J&K Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for detaining Alam. |
