Alam to remain in jail for waging war against India | Mufti's right step in right direction | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 23: The Mufti Mohammad Sayeed-led coalition government Thursday today a right step in the right direction to send a right signal to separatists in Kashmir that his government will not tolerate any attack on the Indian state and that those who would violate the law of the land and raise anti-India and pro-Pakistan slogans and hoist Pakistani flags on the Indian soil will have their place only in jail. The Mufti government today slapped the Public Safety Act (PSA) against Hurriyat leader Masarat Alam and shifted him to a prison in Jammu. Alam, along with other Pakistani agents, had on April 15 held a pro-Pakistan rally in Srinagar, in which Syed Ali Shah Geelani was also present. Actually, they organized the anti-India rally to accord a rousing reception to the seditionist - Geelani. It is important to note that the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Budgam (Kashmir) had on Wednesday reserved the court's order to decide on Alam's bail application after the prosecution sought some more time to furnish laws and court judgements to support their arguments against his release. Alam was arrested on April 17 after he took part in a rally where anti-India, pro-Pakistan and pro-independence slogans were raised and Pakistan flags hoisted and Alam and others raised such slogans as "Hafiz Saeed ka kya paigma Kashmir banega Pakistan". The J&K Government booked Alam under sections 147 (rioting), 341 (wrongful restraint), 336 (endangering life), 427 (damage to property), 120(B) (criminal conspiracy) of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) and under 13 Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Two sections, 121 (sedition) and 124 (A) (waging war against the state), were added later. Since the state government today slapped PSA against Alam and shifted him from Budgam to Jammu, he will have to remain behind bars till the PSA against him is not quashed by the J&K High Court. Alam released in March after a detention of four-and-a-half years under several cases invoking the PSA. The decision of the Mufti government to slap PSA against Alam will restore the people's confidence in the state apparatus and would go a long way in enhancing the morale of the security forces, including the state police. |
