Swimming pool starts for season | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 24: After a long gap of four years, the completely renovated and altered (in terms of dimensions) swimming pool at MA Stadium opened for the season in a simple function held at MA Stadium, here. Except for a couple of young swimmers, men from the J&K Police water sports team were among those who entered the pool on the inaugural day. However, a few young swimming enthusiasts and their parents were among the selected gathering at the pool. The pool was formally declared open by Director General of Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), who holds the additional charge of the Secretary, State Sports Council, NaveenAgarwal. Sitting along the officials of the State Sports Council, including Joint Secretary, Siddharth Sharma and Chief Sports Officer, Abdul Qayoom, after formal inaugural of the facility, the DG expressed his concern over lack of men and material to safeguard those young swimmers in the deep waters. He also questioned lack of facilities at the pool, including starting blocks and necessary articles to train young and new trainees. Since the height at the shallow (learning space) end of the pool has been increased by almost a feet, it would be difficult for the trainers to take coaching sessions. However, the pool has got separate change rooms, showers and cupboards for the use of trainees. Important to mention here that swimming enthusiasts have been allowed to use the facility without registration upto May one. Meanwhile, the DG also had a round of other sports facilities come under Indoor Complex and inquired about those ongoing projects, especially at Badminton Hall of the MA Stadium. |
