Controversy over auction of Adda Tax collection contract | Poonch ACD says it will be re-auctioned | | M S Nazki Early Times Report
MENDHAR, Apr 27: A controversy has erupted in the town here over the auctioning of Adda Tax collection contract by the Mendhar panchayat secretary and the Poonch ACD holding the whole activity as "null and void". The contract was to expire on May 5 next but Mendhar panchayat secretary Sohrab Ahmad Khan put it to auction on April 21 last. No information in this regard was given through newspapers to the interested parties, official sources alleged. Sohrab got pasted a notice, which was written in Urdu, at 2-3 places at Bus Stand and allegedly did not give it wide publicity. Had the notice been published in local newspapers, there would have been more competition among the contractors and the government could have earned more revenue, sources said. The contract was earlier held by Arif Pathan. It was surprisingly allotted in his name this year also. "One fails to understand why Sohrab auctioned the contract on April 21 when the time was previous contract was to expire on May 5," sources asked. Mendhar panch association president Rajeev Sharma said he had no knowledge of the April 21 auction. Mendhar BDO Mohammad Rafiq and tehsildar Mohammad Rafiq Mughal expressed their ignorance about the auction. At the end of the notice, it has been claimed that its copies were sent to tehsildar, Mendhar BDO, district panchayat officer and SDM. Poonch ACD Basharat Ahmad said under rule, the auction should have been carried out afterMay 5 when the term of the previous contract expired. He said the whole process would be put to re-auction. |
