JAMMU, Apr 27 : Sailing on knock from Rahul Sharma, Department of Physical Education today entered the final of the ongoing inter-department cricket tournament, organised by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu (JU) on the campus ground, here. In the semifinals, played today, Physical Education defeated Department of Mathematics by six wickets. Earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, Mathematics set a target of 161 runs for six wickets. Sumeet made highest 38-ball 50 runs hitting eight boundaries while Sultan and Arun contributed 45 and 23 runs respectively. From Physical Education, Rahul took two wickets, followed by Vinay, Charanjeet and Mehmood, who shared apiece each. In reply, Physical Education attained the goal making 161 runs in 19.3 overs for four wickets. Rahul Sharma played brilliant 92 (off 42 balls, 15x4, 1x6) runs and remained unbeaten. Vinay Manhas and Manoj added 33 and 12 runs respectively. From Mathematics, Manoj and Sultan took two and one wicket respectively. Meanwhile, Department of Law qualified for the semifials after they defeated The Business School (TBS) by a big margin of 52 runs. Batting first, Law Department made highest total of the tournament, 209 runs for five wickets. Arun Singh played fine innings of 41-ball 73 runs, followed by equally good batting from Sharoz Malik, who added 65. Varun made 10-ball 21 runs. Pankaj took two wickets and Nirbay and Vishav shared one each from TBS. Later, TBS could make 157 runs to lose the game by 52 runs. Vishav and Pankaj were top scorers wth 56 and 43 runs in their respective accounts. Tushar added 26-ball 36 runs. From Law Department, Rukmesh bowled brilliant spell taking away four wickets for 22 runs in four overs. |
