Minor drowns to death after accidental fall in river in Handwara | | | S Tahir-ul Haq
Kupwara, Apr 27: A minor girl student drowned to death here at Wdderballa Rajwara in Handwara tehsil of Kupwara district on Monday morning when she was going to crossing a river and accidently slipped into deep waters. Police sources told Early Times," The minor girl student identified namely as Tabasum Gulzar (10), d/o Gulzar Ahmad Mir of Waderballa Rajwar drowned in nearby Stream when she was on way to nearby School this morning." Meanwhile locals alleged that several JCB machines are extracting the sand and stone illegally from the stream from past couple of months and making deep fatal trenches which claim the lives and the minor girl also fell victim to it. "Ten year old girl Tabasum of Government Primary School Gujjerpati Waderballa was washed away in gushing water however her body was recovered today afternoon by hard efforts of police under the supervision of Superintendent of Police (SP) Handwara Ghulam Jeelani and Zonal Education Officer Rajwar Ghulam Mohi-Ud Din Dar who were present in the whole operation in order to track body of the slain student," said sources. They said that she was rushed to nearby hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. The incident sparked resentment in the area when the body of the girl reached to her native village. However locals said that several JCB machines are extracting the sand and stone (Bajri) illegally from the stream from past couple of months and making large and deep ditches which claim the lives. Meanwhile Early Times have learnt from sources that authorities have closed the Wagoora-Baramulla road for traffic and pedestrian movement even as several localities and Government Higher secondary School Wagoora remained cut off due to washing away of portions of the road connecting them. At least 50 villages remain cut off from Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway for past one week after similar flood situation in Ningli washed away a large portion of Wagoora-Shrakwara Bridge. The people from Shrakwara and Wagoora said that main bridge which connects Baramulla with Wagoora at Wizar was damaged due to flash floods last month was repaired and maintained but on Sunday night the gushing water in local stream again damaged it. Vehicular and pedestrian movement has been hampered on Srinagar-Baramulla highway following the accumulation of around three feet water. Meanwhile a senior official admittingly said due to incessant rains from past two days, the authorities taking preventive measures have closed Wagoora Baramulla road after Ningli water washed away major portion of the bridge near Vizer Shrakwara. |
