| Illegal parking traffic mess choke Kathua | | |  Early Times Report
Kathua, Apr. 28: Overcrowding cascades traffic in Kathua especially on Court road where riders openly violate traffic rules as authorities watch silently.
Security men should control and smoothen the flow of traffic but ironically most of the vehicles on the road belong to Police, CRPF and other paramilitary forces.
Many incidents occurred in previous days on Court road but no serious steps have been taken yet to address the problem of illegal parking. It becomes hard for untrained or learners to use the road during office hours. The issue of illegal parking on road has been discussed several times with the concerned authority but all in vain. Besides busy Court Road, Kathua illegal parking creates mess at Kalibari Chowk, Shaheedhi Chowk, Mukharji Chowk and either sides of the Kathua main bazaar to Kalibari road Shaheedhi Chowk and Mukharji Chowk. As Traffic Park is abuzz with people visiting the place with their children, traffic chaos is quite regular. The surprising part is that the traffic police and administration no longer bother to regulate the traffic. The crowded areas can be a soft target to spread panic with ease by terrorists since infiltration is expected to increase
Last month the traffic police swung into action and took action against many persons, even vehicles were seized.
But the spirit died down soon. Many social workers and prominent citizens said the unnecessary encroachments alongside the Kathua-Kalibari is not the symbol of civilized society. Shagun Deep Singh, President The Sikh Youth Welfare Society, SYWS, said it looks that the everybody have turned out their social and moral responsibilities towards the betterment of this human society but traffic police also should realize their moral duty besides merely collecting revenue for the government.Now a days the main bazaar to Shaheedi chowk and Court road to Jarai Morh have become the flash point of traffic jams, and congestion of roads due to the rampant and haphazard parking on either sides of the roads. Acute shortage of parking spaces, rampant encroachments by illegal parking with indifferent and evasive traffic management have converted this city Kathua into major traffic bottlenecks. |
