Flood victims demand proper rehabilitation package, carry out protests | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Apr 28: A group of flood victims including some affected traders carried out a protest demonstration here and demanded proper rehabilitation of the flood affected people of the Kashmir valley. This morning a protest demonstration was organized by Kashmir Flood Victims Welfare Forum (KFVWF) wherein it was impressed upon the state and central governments to draw a comprehensive plan for the flood affected people. Large number of flood affected people including traders participated in the protest demonstration. The protesters were shouting slogans against state and central governments for their failure to rehabilitate flood victims even after the gap of seven months. They alleged that both state and central governments have turned a deaf ear towards the issue of rehabilitation of flood affected people. The protesters alleged that state government didn't actively pursue the relief package and the central government did not show any seriousness as shown in Uttarakhand floods. They said the relief provided so far to the affected families and business sector did not satisfy anybody even the administration itself. The protesters averred that flood relief cheques valuing Rs. 3, 800 and Rs. 12, 000 did not meet even the labour cost of cleaning flooded houses and business establishments. They said that it is high time for both the governments to reach out to the affected families and traders with appropriate financial assistance and that too within a short period of time. |
