| International fame Kathak Dancer Rani Khanam performs at Jodhamal | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 28 : Under the aegis of SPIC MACAY, the students of Jodhamal Public School today witnessed a wonderful Kathak Dance rendition by Rani Khanam (a renowned exponent of Kathak), who has been honoured for her courageous and pioneering work . She is the only Indian Muslim Kathak Classical Dancer of distinction who has braved to dance on Islamic verses of mystic Sufi poets. Co-ordinator Ranju Malhotra welcomed the Artists and introduced the Artists of the Day Vidushi Rani Khanam along with the accompanists.
Rani Khanam was accompanied by Vishwanath Misra on tabla, Pradeep Mishra on Sarangi and Sayyora as the vocalist, she mesmerized the audience with her lec-dem. She commenced the recital with an invocation to the 'Ardhan-aarishwar and went on to demonstrate 'Tatkar', 'Jugalbandi' with tabla, a small episode of Krishna and Radha, 'Chakkar', 'Sawal jawab' with tabla and ended the performance with a stupendous 'Thumari' - 'mohe chodon na' based on 'Raag Kalawati'.
The fascinating performance left the students spell bond. Vidushi Rani Khanam an astute interpreter of Lucknow displayed a breath taking technique in both pure dance and in the art of Abhinaya.
The young dancers of JMPS, interacted with Khanam and took her advice seriously. This session turned out to be a Kathak Workshop for the students and staff of Jodhamal Public School.
The School Principal, Trilok Singh said that the kids and staff were transcended to a different world with the mesmerising performance of Rani Khanam and appreciated the efforts made by Dr. Sapna Sangra the J & K Coordinator for SPIC MACAY, for making this event happen at Jodhamal. |
