Separatists interested in violence & not talks | | | Do Kashmiri separatists want re-sumption of talks with Government of India? Talks between the Government of India and the separatists st and stalled since 2006 and hitherto separatists have never made a strong and sincere bid for resumption of the stalled talks. In fact if one examines properly the events that were triggered by the separatists in Kashmir during the last several years one could easily come to the conclusion that these separatists are not interested in holding talks with Government of India. And if some of the separatists are to be believed they want they need to be involved in the bilateral talks between India and Pakistan. This stand is the result of their belief that since Kashmiris are party to the dispute involvement of their representatives in the bilateral talks was mandatory. Now that New Delhi has shown no interest in reopening the channels of dialogue with Islamabad separatists in Kashmir could have taken advantage of the situation by motivating New Delhi for resuming the stalled talks with them. These separatists have shown no inclination for holding talks with New Delhi and that is evident by the way these separatists have displayed their anti-India sentiments on a number of occasions since May last when Narendra Modi was installed as Prime Minister of India separatists have even organised rallies where protesters waved Pakistani flags and shouted anti-India and Pro-Pakistan slogans. It was on April 15 that a few Pakistani flags were waved at a rally held to accord reception to Syed Ali Shah Geelani on his arrival to Srinagar after about three months' stay in New Delhi. It was during this rally that Masarat Alam, who had been released from detention under the orders of Chief Minister, Mufti Mohd. Sayeed, headed pro-Pakistan slog an shouting protesters who kept on waving Pakistani flags. And on Friday Pakistani flags were waved and anti-India slogans were shouted at a rally in Tral in south Kashmir where Syed Ali Shah Geelani was the main separate ist leader present. In addition to this repeated calls given by the separatists for shutdowns, protest rallies to protest against even minor events and incidents seem to have widened the gulf between the Government of India and the separatists.A stage has reached when the BJP led NDA Government has made it known that it was not interested in resuming talks with the Kashmiri separatists. And under these circumstances no Government needs to be interested in holding talks with those set of people whose only agenda is to derail peace and political stability in Jammu and Kashmir. In the Common Minimum Programme formulated by the ruling coalition of BJP-PDP it was agreed to reopen channels of dialogue with the separatists. But now the BJP is not keen on fulfilling its commitment and it has left it to Chief Minister,Mufti Mohd.Sayeed,to hold talks with separatists if he desired doing so.This way the Government of India has decided to ignore and sideline these separatists. And chances for involving them in bilateral talks between India and Pakistan, whenever they are held, seem to be bleak.Well these separatists seem to have taken undue advantage of the policy of liberalism on the part of Mufti Mohd.Sayeed. And this liberal policy had motivated him to set Masarat Alam free but the Chief Minister had no other alternative but to see him rearrested under Public Safety Act. Will these separatists cooperate with Mufti Syeed who wants to give space to them? They seem to be disinterested in cooperating with the Government because they know that their survival is linked with violence, disturbances and conflict. And if people like Geelani cross the Lakshman Rekha he and others too could meet Alam's fate. The choice is with the separatists. |
