CRPF anticipating militant attacks on Amarnath pilgrims | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, May 17, Inspector General Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Atul Parikar today said that security agencies have been anticipating militant attacks on Yatri's during Amarnath pilgrimage this year. Interacting with reporters at his headquarters in Srinagar, Parikar said that Amarnath Yatra is an easy target for the militants and keeping in view the latest surge in militant attacks, "we are anticipating more militant attacks during the yatra," he said. He said this year Amarnath Yatra will be very tough and it will require a lot of energy to keep the militants under control during the Yatra. "CRPF has conducted joint meetings with the police and civil administration and there is effective coordination between local police and CRPF. We are ready to face any threat from the militants and hopefully we will curb the militants successfully," he said. Responding to a question, Parikar according to sources said that CRPF has learnt some lessons from the Sangam Anantnag attack in which two security personnel were shot dead by militants. "We will change our strategy to avoid such attacks in future. We will ensure that no trooper loses his life during militant strike," he said. He said that to bridge the gap between people and troopers, CRPF has been mulling to start various civic action programmes. "We have already been in touch with people but to bridge the gap effectively, we will start these programmes in a big way," he said. IG Atul Parikar refused to comment on contentious AFSPA issue. Replying to a question, Parikar said that CRPF has not received any circular prohibiting them to carry lethal weapons while dealing with law and order situation. |
