| Centaur hotel employees waiting for wage revision since 2007 | | LS Petition Committee assures them of 'relief' in near future | | Jehangir Rashid

SRINAGAR, May 18: Employees of the Srinagar unit of Centaur Hotel who are waiting for the revision of the wage agreement got a shot in the arm when the Lok Sabha Petition Committee assured them that their genuine demands would be put before the Civil Aviation Ministry.
Javed Ahmad Pandit, President Centaur Hotel Employees Union told Early Times that 15 member Petition Committee arrived here on May 15 and left today for New Delhi. Javed said the committee members carried out deliberations with the employees of the hotel and listened to them with regard to their demand of revision of the wages that are pending for the last eight years now.
"We projected our demands before the committee members and apprised them of the delay in the revision of the wages. Last time it was in 2007 that the wages were revised and since then we have been waiting for the same. We pleaded our case before the committee members and they listened to us patiently," said Javed.
The Lok Sabha Petition Committee constituted by Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan has been mandated to hold talks with the employees of the Centaur hotel with regard to their wage revision. The committee is headed by Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) Member of Parliament from Nainital-Udhamsingh Nagar constituency, Bhagat Singh Koshyari.
"Officials of the Civil Aviation Ministry and the management of Hotel Corporation of India were also summoned to the meeting and they too presented their view point before the committee members. The committee members in principle agreed to our demand of wage revision and they assured us that necessary action would be taken in this regard," said Javed.
The employee leader said that the committee members narrated that the demands would be forwarded to the Civil Aviation Ministry since the final decision lies with them. He said since the hotel is the property of Civil Aviation Ministry it is they who have to take a final call on the wage revision of the employees of Centaur hotel.
"Deliberations were held in a cordial manner and we are hopeful that this time around there would be some relief for us. We have been suffering like anything and time has come to revise the wages of Centaur hotel. Wage revision agreement was our main demand and we are glad that this demand of ours was listened to very patiently by the committee members," said Javed.
Javed said that committee members made it clear that the Srinagar unit of the Centaur hotel would neither be sold to any private firm nor to the state government. He while quoting Bhagat Singh Koshyari said that Srinagar's Centaur hotel would continue to be crown of India. He said that BJP led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government would renovate the hotel in one go and ensure that this prime property does not seen any further dilapidation. |
